Good Morning, World

I awoke this morning at 7:59, after getting about four hours of true sleep, bright eyed and ready to take on the world. Writing last night and "sleeping on things" seemed to help immensely, and I am nowhere near as nervous or anxious about calling our landlord this morning as I was before. What happens will happen, and as I'm trying to live with each day being better than my last, I will figuratively roll with it and keep moving forward regardless of any outcome. I should be making the call here in the next hour or so. No matter what happens with it, I'm not really expecting either of the bad-case scenarios, but regardless I will come back here to update everyone on the situation.

My allergies are killing me this morning, probably due to the fact that our weather patterns seem to finally be changing for the better, albeit slowly -- here in Newton, it's supposed to be only 97 by the afternoon, and we're supposed to get rain and storms every day through Saturday, with temperatures barely reaching 100 for the foreseeable future. It looks like the worst of the heat wave has finally broken (it was 109 yesterday). This will be good if we actually get a bit of substantial rain; I should mow the grass at least one more time this summer, if only to get rid of the high weeds that seem to flourish all over our yard in random spots, before the former girlfriend takes the mower with her when she moves out.

As I mentioned before, the former girlfriend has an apartment to look at today in Wichita, with an appointment of sometime around 2-2:30, something like that. Apparently the complex manager there just got the keys to that place back yesterday, and it hasn't yet been professionally cleaned after the last tenants moved out, so even if she does like it and take it she wouldn't be able to move in until around or after the weekend. She also has to secure a rental moving truck (like a U-Haul or something of that nature) once she finds a place, as well. She still doesn't know whether or not she's going to take Maggie (her cat) with her. I told her that of course, Maggie is always welcome here with the other two cats as always and it's not like I wouldn't take care of her or love her just as much as I do now.

"If nothing else," I added, "whenever you graduate in the spring and end up leaving town/going wherever you need to go, you can always take her then if you need or want to."

"Yeah, but by then she'll be really attached to you since she will have have been away from me all that time," she said.

"Well, it's not like she wouldn't remember you."

Truthfully, as much as I love Maggie, it doesn't matter whether she stays here and becomes my cat or goes with the former girlfriend. She's a cat; I'm pretty sure she'll be happy wherever she is one way or the other. I have Petey and Sadie, both of whom are fairly stupid (in most respects, Sadie is really stupid), who probably wouldn't notice Maggie was gone after a week or so. Maggie's a sweet cat and I'd miss her around the house for a while, but she is the former girlfriend's cat.

So, I'm off to make the call to our landlord now; I'm going to keep the conversation as pleasant as possible, and hopefully it will be a simple, short call. I'll let you know what I find out about what's going on, of course, as promised.

[EDIT: Tried to call twice, can't yet reach him.]
