Sweet Home Chicago

It sucks to be broke and waiting on money to arrive in one's bank account. Today is when the direct deposits of everything financial-aid-related should be starting, as mentioned in my last post, so I'm hoping everything goes according to plan and that my money will clear my account by the weekend. There have been no changes for me yet on either side -- the bank or the university account -- but the university doesn't update their records until everything has been finished, so that's not exactly to be unexpected. As mentioned before, it takes anywhere between 24 and 48 hours for a deposit to fully post to my bank account, since it's in West Virginia and I'm in Kansas. In the meantime, I paid all of my bills that I had (only to have two more arrive in the mail the next day), and have made a shopping list for when the aforementioned money arrives. Some friends are slowly filtering back into Wichita throughout the course of this week, but I've not tried to contact any of them; I'm poor, and I figure they have their own shit to do upon their return. I've also had my phone turned off since after returning from Daisy's house two weeks ago, since I really don't have any minutes to spare until I can afford to get more. Ironically, I still carry the phone around with me whenever I leave the house, in case of emergency -- it's just always off.

On the plus side, we have received our teaching schedules for the spring semester, and as per the usual, I am teaching at 9:30 and 11 on Tuesday/Thursday, in two buildings I've never taught real classes in before (I've given my students' final exams in one of the buildings, but haven't actually taught in there). Luckily, both buildings are right next to my office, so I won't have to walk far in the cold of the first two months or so of the semester. Other than that, I've not heard anything else from the department about any sort of changes or other administrative stuff, including anything relating to my impending graduation. I also don't yet have my rosters or know how many students I have this semester, nor do I have access to my classes on Blackboard yet (as mentioned previously), so I can't really do much other than prepare their lesson plans for the first unit of the class and wait for more info on how many copies of my syllabus I'll need to print. There was also a memo sent out last month that we now have to include some new information on our syllabi as a new rule has gone into enforcement by the university, so I'll have to revisit that memo and see what I have to add and/or possibly remove. I like to keep my classes as simple and streamlined as possible, so we'll see.

My mother sent me a message telling me that the first box of stuff has been sent and is now on its way to me; she said it should arrive by Saturday. I'm guessing it's the one with all of the heavy stuff in it, as she said it doesn't have anything perishable (and thus that's why it will take most of the week to get here; she sent it at a lower price/slower rate). That's fine with me; I'm looking forward to using my new rice cooker, something I've wanted to own for a long time.

I've asked Daisy to come down for the weekend (if she wants to) once she gets home from Chicago; it'll be the last totally "free" weekend I have for a while, as classes start on Tuesday, and it's capped with MLK day on Monday, which means I get an extra day off. However, neither of us know if she'll want to make the trip down here right after she gets home from being on a bus back from Chicago for nine hours, nor do I know if she'll have the gas money to make the trip. I'm happy to fill her gas tank for her once she gets here (especially since, by then, I should not only have my money, but my credit card I use to get gas with has now been paid off), but it's not like I can fill her gas tank for the trip down here from Omaha. Still, I'd love to get some time with her before the semester starts, because once it gets rolling, my free time will be at a premium, and sooner or later she will once again have a job that takes all of her time. I'll ask her when I talk to her next, to see what she wants to do. It's possible that she may not want to, or may not be able to make it down.

Daisy herself, as well as her two friends, have been enjoying Chicago since they arrived -- Daisy, actually, went out last night and got herself a completely new look:

Words cannot truly describe how giddy I was when I saw her new, red-hair-and-glasses look last night on Skype. I must've taken fifty screenshots of her. Mind you, I love Daisy as she is, and have (and always will) find her beautiful and gorgeous, but holy shit, I couldn't stop grinning at her new appearance. Anyone who knows me knows that two of my biggest, ahem, turn-ons are red hair and glasses. Daisy knows this as well, and decided to exploit that. The girl is evil, but evil in a good way. I love her so very much and can't wait for her to be home again.

I can't remember who it was that told me, but one of my friends told me long ago that I definitely had a set "type" when it came to what and who I'm attracted to. I never really agreed with that statement until I saw Daisy's new look last night, and then quietly thought to myself yup, I have a type, all right. Indeed I do.

I'm feeling pretty good, actually, compared to the weird sickness I had over this past weekend -- my allergies are killing me (probably due to the fact that my furnace has been running almost nonstop because it's fucking freezing outside), but otherwise I feel fine now. I don't know what was making me sick, but it appears to have passed. Daisy said that it was probably at least somewhat stress-related, brought on by the fact that my sleeping schedule is out of sorts, worrying about my budget and other money issues, and being upset that I couldn't go to Chicago. She is probably right to a certain extent, but I don't really know. My diet has changed drastically over the entirety of the break as well, due to those aforementioned budget issues and all of the travel I've been doing. I've been eating some really strange stuff over the past six weeks, and for the past week or so have only been eating what I can afford until my money drops. If it's delayed for any reason, I do have enough money to survive on for a little while, but my budget is going to be even tighter than it is now. I will have to go to Walmart in the next few days, regardless, as the cats will soon need food and litter (again). I myself can subsist on coffee, cigarettes, cereal, and whatever I have in the freezer/pantry for quite some time if I have to. I like to think of being poor and rationing all of my food as preparation for the zombie apocalypse, because it's really not much different. This rice and these cans of beans will last me X amount of days, and if I have to, I can eat the bread, peanut butter, cereal and oatmeal for this many meals, etc. It's not like I eat a whole lot anyway, but I do plan for certain issues to arise -- as mentioned before, I always plan for the worst-case scenario.

I haven't done a whole lot this week, but that's mainly because I've chosen not to. I really want to enjoy my last few days off while I can, and enjoy them to the fullest by doing as little as possible. Therefore, a good chunk of my time has been spent sleeping (I slept eleven hours straight last night, from 10PM to almost 9AM), reading, and playing games on my Xbox or on the PC here. If I'm not doing that, I'm on the couch in the living room with my kitties, watching a disc of something (yesterday I finished off the new season of Beavis and Butt-head, which I purchased when I was in Omaha for $10). I have six days of break left, so I might as well make the most of it while I'm alone and unfettered -- especially if, for the latter three days or so of that break, I'll be back in the arms of my lady love.

Other than that, I don't have a whole lot of plans. Wait for my money to drop, revise/re-edit my syllabus and lesson plans, wait for my baby to come home, do some laundry, try to stay warm, and wait for my parents' box to arrive in the mail. No reason or need to do much else, really. I'll update you folks on how things go.
